CES 2019 is currently taking place in Las Vegas, so let’s see what’s going on with the famous drone brand which is not short of novelties. We have just discovered the Smart Controller, the new radio control for certain DJI drones of the brand.

The Smart Controller, a real smartphone

This new radio control will make it possible to do without a smartphone to use certain features of a DJI drone. Indeed, the Smart Controller is based on an Android system, which first allows you to install the various pilot applications (DJI Go 4, DJI Pilot). Where the radio control takes on a real smartphone air is that you can download certain other compatible applications, such as Twitter, Google Maps, etc. For the most determined, we can even, thanks to SkyTalk (a feature of DJI Go 4), do a life on social networks which broadcasts the images captured by the drone. Finally, you can transfer files wirelessly to a smartphone or any other device using DJI Go Share.

A beautifully integrated screen

In addition to the control buttons, on the Smart Controller, we can see a large 5.5-inch screen (about 14 cm diagonal). The resolution will be Full HD (1080p). In reality, it replaces a smartphone, as we said. It has an advantage that is not the least: brightness. Even at maximum brightness, a smartphone struggles to really show us the images of the drones. DJI announces that on its Smart Controller we can have up to 1000 cd / m², twice as good as a smartphone.
In addition, on this Smart Controller, we will have an OcuSync 2.0 video transmission module as well as an HDMI port that supports 4K clocked at 60 frames per second. finally, the battery is 5,000 mAh for the autonomy of 2h30.

Conclusion

Packs will be released with the Mavic 2 Pro or the Mavic 2 Zoom, prices have not yet been indicated.
